Respect for others, responsibility, compassion empathy, self-discipline, good citizenship, honesty, trustworthiness, courage, respect for authority figures, and perseverance. Use literature and read stories about positive character traits to your children. Does you local school district have a character traits program? If not, encourage the schools to put a program in place or support a program that already exists. Join and support various organizations that are involved in crime prevention, school programs, abuse/violence prevention programs, volunteer efforts, and many others. Be an active concerned citizen and/or parent who works to improve your community. Support your local law enforcement, fire, and rescue departments.
